Top Three Accessories For A 45 Degree Picatinny Mount

Why Mount Via A 45 Degree Mount?

There are a few reasons to mounts things on a 45 degree picatinny. The most popular being a 45 degree offset red dot. The Osprey Global Red Dot RSMR is by far the most popular for this purpose. The benefit of a 45 degree offset is it means you will have a clear view of your scope or iron sights and you can add accessories or red dot sights on the side. Basically it maximises the space on your weapon.

Sometimes the 90 degree mount is preferable depending on what you are doing with your rifle. For example most people would put an Osprey 600 lumen rifle tactical light either under the barrel or on the 90 degree side mount on a quad rail. This makes it easy to turn on and off with either your knuckle or your thumb.

A few reasons to put it on a 45 degree mount would be to keep the barrel clear for your grip. You also may have other accessories on the quad rail or you may simply have no picatinny mounts on your ninety degree quad rail. Long story short the 45 degree picatinny mount is another way to customise your weapon and the main concern is to make sure it is comfortable for you and your needs.

Do I Need An AR-15 To Use A 45 Degree Mount?

Although the AR-15 is by far the most popular weapon to put a 45 degree mount on it is not the only one people use it on.Basically it is used on any tactical rifle with a rail down the barrel. Carbines are popular to have the 45 degree offsets and people even use it to mount lights and lasers on tactical shotguns. The Osprey Scope 45 degree offset mount will mount to any picatinny rail.

Can I Use The 45 Degree Mount If I am Left-Handed?

This is a much more common question than you may believe. There are many left handed shooters out there, with various dominant eyes. Some scopes are made specifically for the left handed shooter. For the 45 degree mount from Osprey Global you can simply swap it from side to side to accommodate your dominant handed shooting style.

Should I mount My 45 Degree Mount On The Top Rail Or On The Side Rail?

There are two ways to mount the 45 degree picatinny mount. Either on the top rail or on the 90 degree quad side rail. Neither is wrong. We feel that the mount on the 90 degree quad is ideal because it keeps the top barrel clear.

Sometimes you may want to mount on the top rail any way. You may not have a picatinny rail on the side of your AR handguard or your weapon, like some tactical shotguns, may not have the ability to have rails on the side. Another reason you may prefer to mount your 45 degree offset on the to rail is because your side rail already has accessories installed like a sling clip or 600 lumen osprey rifle light.

What If I Do Not Have A Side Rail?

Most weapons do not come with a side rail as standard out the box. If you have an AR platform you may have the keymod or the M-Lok slots that you can install a rail. You can also replace any handguard on your AR with a quad rail to accommodate rails on the side.

Some weapons will either have it or not. If you do not have a side rail then there is nothing wrong with top mounting your 45 degree mount.

Top Three Products You Can Mount On A 45 Degree Picatinny Rail:

45 Degree Mounted Iron Sights:

This is the classic and although Osprey Global do not sell the 45 degree offset flip up sights they are an excellent addition to any tactical weapon. If your scope stops holding zero and your red dot runs out of batteries and your laser has malfunctioned then your iron sights will be ready and waiting to finish the job amd get you home.

They are flip up sights that are built-in to a 45 degree picatinny mount. If you need to use them you tilt your gun to the 45 degree side and site them for short range shots. Iron sights do not run out of batteries so they are the best back-up you can hope for.

Osprey Global 600 Lumen Rifle Light Mounted On A 45 Degree Picatinny Mount.

The Osprey Global 600 Lumen Rifle Light is an ideal addition to your 45 degree mount. It will allow you to leave the barrel free for a smooth grip or for additional accessories. Some will not like it as it can create bulk further from the barrel and will prefer the Osprey Global 600 Lumen Rifle Light to be attached either under the barrel or on the side of the quad rail. It is an excellent way to attach the tactical light on weapons that do not have the additional picatinny rails on side or the underneath the barrel.

The Osprey Global 600 Lumen Rifle Light is a tactical light that can blind your enemies with the disorienting strobe, and the strenght of the light is fully adjustable from low medium and full power. A pressure switch wire is included so you can turn it on from anywhere you choose. We do not recommend using the pressure switch if you mount it to a 45 degree mount as you risk the wire getting caught on obstructions.

Osprey Global Red Dot RSMR On A 45 Degree Mount.

The most popular thing to mount on a 45 degree picatinny mount is the Osprey Global RSMR Red Dot. This is perfect if you have a hunting rifle scope and you want to retain the ability to get on target fast. This is great if you are hunting and get surprised by a hog or you are in your house and you want to get on target quickly.

The other benefit of a RSMR Red Dot Sight on a 45 degree mount is that you can make a shot while your back is to the wall. If you hit the ground you can still make a shot. If your back is in the ground you are not in good shape so having the back ups already in place and practiced are an advantage. When stuff goes wrong you want all the advantages you can find.

Should You Use A 45 Degree Picatinny Mount:

Yes. You may not want to use it in a life threatening situation, it may feel clunky and left handed to you. You may not be able to hit a target accurately for the first ten magazines. So never commit to using ANYTHING in a self-defense situation that you have not trained with and you are comfortable with.

The main reason we suggest getting a 45 degree picatinny mount is because it is simply fun. You get to try out what it feels like to be tactical and a completely different style of shooting. If you like it then keep using it, if you don’t you just spent $20.95 to sample a brand new set up on your tactical weapon.
