How Osprey Lasers Make You A Better Neighbour.
Why Everyone Needs An Osprey Laser:
You have been living under a rock if you have not heard the quote;
“due to the rising cost of ammunition I am no longer able to provide a warning shot”- American Proverb
It is on tin signs mounted above home bars, nailed to walls in garages and on posters and T-shirts all across gun toting america. It is meant as humor but it echoes a truth that seems realer right now than ever before. Most popular calibers have tripled in price since this time last year and a constant onslaught of legislation threatens to make it harder and harder to get the ammunition we need. Therefore it makes sense to keep the ammo we have for when we really need it right? We don’t care if you have been stockpiling since the 80’s or if you are down to your last magazine: now is not the time to waste ammo! This is where the Osprey tactical laser comes in.
When And How To Use the Osprey Global Tactical Laser.
The laser is at its core: an intimidation tool. A tool used to let the bad guy know that we not only mean business but that we have a high caliber solution if the business turns into a problem. We call it many different things: the police call it a compliance tool as it makes the person with a green laser dot on their chest remember their manners and become a lot more compliant. Some people call it an aiming aid or accuracy or speed enhancer. We call it something different here at buyospreyglobal. It lets the person on the other side of the barrel know that you have a weapon aimed at them and that you aren't afraid to use it. No one has thus far been injured, but they know that their next move should be very carefully considered. At Buyosprey global we don't call that a laser, we call it a warning shot.
Why Use An Osprey global Green Laser?
This is the whole point of a laser is to let them know you are there and that you are in control. It is often the difference between having to kill someone and have them realise (usually very quickly) that they are on the wrong property and that they had best rectify this situation pronto. It doesn't matter if it is an Osprey mini green laser or part of a combination like on the Osprey 2.5-10 with green laser mounted on your AR platform. Regardless of the weapon, from 22 to fifty gauge, no one wants to be on the receiving end of a tactical laser.
Conversley nobody out there, well no upstanding gun owner anyway, actually wants to fire on anyone. Despite what some politicians paint us law abiding gun owners as, we don’t actually want to have to use our weapons in defence or in anger. Firstly there are court fees, possible jail time and you lose your gun until you are cleared: And that's if you shoot someone that's trying to hurt you or your family IE; that's if you are acting within the law. Most of us have the “not my house not my fire” mentality: we want to be safe but don't want the responsibility nor the reprisal of taking the law into our own hands.
So no one wants to shoot a bad guy, which is terrible enough for reasons stated above and not to mention hard on your conscience. So a very special hell is reserved for us if we ever shoot the wrong person. A cousin comes over unannounced, a neighbour comes up your driveway to let you know you left the lights on in your truck or some other innocent but unannounced visitor. It can be nerve wracking having an unknown person on your property and tragedy comes from shooting first and asking questions later.
If you have the Osprey mini green laser on your hellcat or the Osprey 5mw rifle green laser attached to your AR platform, you can simply turn on the laser and put it on the unknown persons chest until they identifythemselves and their intentions. You can consider that a warning shot. If anything goes bad you have them covered and dead to rights. On the chance that is is your friend who forgot his phone dropping by unannounced you wont be forced into doing something you regret in the het of the moment. This is the biggest benefit of the laser. An Osprey laser can actually stop you from having to kill someone because it puts you in control, and lets them know you have a fully loaded , tricked out and racked upper hand, without pulling the trigger. Whether its a pistol laser or a popular combination like the Osprey 2.5-10 with green laser it will have the same intimidating effect.
When Shouldn't You Use An Osprey Global Tactical Laser?
There are always considerations to your approach to self defence. As mr myagi said in Karate Kid
“ best defence for punch Is no be there” - Mr Myagi
Or something like that. But the best defence is to avoid any trouble. You learn this in your license to carry class (LTC). Walk away from any confrontation and don't let ego get involved. If someone is aggressive to you on the road then let them pass, if a group of drunks are getting angry then leave the vicinity and if someone calls you names then do what jesus would do and turn the other cheek.
That's fine and a good habit to be in regardless, but what happens when an intruder is in your house and they could endanger the ones you love. That's when you stand your ground hell or highwater. This can be the perfect time to use your Osprey Laser. It could also be the absolutely opposite and be the worst time to turn on your Osprey Laser.
Osprey Lasers Are Easy To See In The Dark
Let me explain. The Osprey Laser selection makes it very easy to see where your point of impact is and to get on the right target really quick. It is an Osprey 5mw rifle green laser in all of the green laser products, from the osprey mini green laser to the combinations. This is very easy to see quickly. You can literally shoot from the hip as you know your shot is going within an inch of that Osprey laser dot.
The problem with this is that if you can see it, then so can the bad guy. As we said the Osprey 5mw rifle green laser is very easy to see. It will show the attacker exactly where you are, they just have to follow the Osprey laser back to its source. The term for this is “Follow-Back” and different lasers have different amounts of follow-back. For example the Osprey blue laser has a lot less “follow-back” than our green laser. More on that HERE
So When and Why Should You Turn On your Osprey Laser?
So The time to turn on your laser is when you are in control. When you can see the intruder, you want to warn them as opposed to shoot first and ask questions later. To give you an example; If someone is on your property you may want to turn on the laser. You can see them, they are not in your house and you have the advantage. Put a laser on them and ask what they are doing on your property. It could be a few rascal kids taking a shortcut, a shortcut that I daresay they will never take again after having a green laser show up on their chest. It could be your neighbour telling you about your open gate or it could be intruders seeing if you are an easy target. No matter what you haven't shot anyone and no one is going to target a house where someone has a tactical laser on their weapon and is aware and prepared to use it .
If they are inside your house, and let's be clear, no one has ever broken into a house to do the occupants a favor, then you have a decision to make. If you turn on your laser you may become a target. Also in most houses you don't need to ‘AIM’ so much as “ UNLOAD” in the right direction. It may be best to wait them out in a tactical position and unleash hell when the moment is right. I mean that's why god gave us 15 round clips.
Osprey Tactical Lights
When someone has crossed the threshold of your house then it may be time to keep the osprey laser turned off and switch on a high powered disorientating light. We have a few options from the Osprey 600 lumen rifle light to the green or blue laser battle grip laser flashlight combination. Since there is less chance of missing there is less need to aim and it is considered more important to disorientate your assailants than intimidate them and be highly precise and accurate. Most assailants will run after just the sound of gunshots. Especially if it is more than one shot followed by "yee-haaw".
There's another benefit of the tactical lights. They have a 600 lumen strobe function. When a strobe light is aimed at someone, especially in a dark environment, it partially blinds them. We all know that feeling of waking up in the middle of the night and turning on a light and it feels like you are a vampire in texas, blinding you and disorientating you as you try and get a midnight snack. Well if we multiply this by a thousand and add a strobe feature and you have yourself a simple but effective bad guy stopper.
The other thing a strobe light does is rob the receiver the ability to aim. It does a thing called “cartooning” the mind. As the strobe flashes you can try and aim but you only have a fraction of a second to find and get a bead on your target. 99 percent of people, trained or otherwise, cannot make a clean shot in a fraction of a second. As the light flashes on and off repeatedly your brain tries to link the images together like an old school cartoon. The problem for the one on the receiving end of the strobe light is that the brain has to refocus each time it flashes and they never get a chance to focus and therefore it affects the ability to AIM properly. This means that they won’t be able to take an accurate shot while being strobed and the best they can get is wild desperate shots. This gives the person who knows the space intimately and who has a disorienting strobe on their weapon a supreme advantage.
Osprey Laser Or Tactical Light?
As they say get the right tool for the right job. If you are primarily using your weapon for concealed carry then laser is all you are going to need. You are using it to get back to a place of safety. If you are using it to protect your family you may need the option to kick it into fifth gear and go into search and destroy mode which may need both the light and the laser as the situation progresses.
Osprey flashlight laser combinations
There are Osprey laser light combinations for both pistol and AR platform and both are very effective. You will hopefully never have to use your osprey laser or your weapon in anger or defence but better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.
There are two main types of combinations. The laser and optic combination like the red dot with the Osprey 5mw rifle green laser which combines an optic and a laser. These are useful for rifles and AR platforms when you want to have something for distance and something for a compliance tool and clearing rooms.
AR Optic Riflescope 2.5-10x40 with 5 MW green laser
Tactical Laser Combinations
The other option is more geared towards home scenarios is the flashlight and laser combinations. With this you can use the disorienting strobe and the Osprey 5mw rifle green laser. These are ideal for tight indoor and poorly lit scenarios. We have them for the pistol and for the AR and next month we will go over the benefits of each model and what weapon they are more suited for. All the below models have a high quality laser and a high lumen light with disorientating strobe all built into the single unit.
AR Battlegrip Laser Flashlight Combo - Green
Battlegrip Laser Flashlight Combo - Blue
Green Laser Flashlight Combo - Pistol
Mini Green Laser Combo - Compact Pistol
How Do I decide?
Next month we will be going over how to decide on the best Osprey laser for your needs and set up. We don’t suggest lending your life to one option. If you have a red dot make sure you have iron sights, if you have a laser make sure you have an optic as well. Train with the laser and the light and remember to train without these options as well so you don’t rely too heavily on just one option. Be comfortable with different set ups and worst case scenarios, and only then can you say that you are prepared. We will leave you with a quote that is somehow appropriate here
“If the only tool you have is a hammer, you may find it hard to eat spaghetti”
A Note On Holsters For Lasers:
If you are worried if the laser will change the shape and feel of your gun then you are absolutely correct. It wont affect your shooting but it will change the shape of the gun meaning you may need a new holster. We have teamed up with "Just Holster It" who make custom holsters. If you go to their website HERE you can order the right holster for your laser.
